Walk in tubs come in many sizes and with a variety of options. It is wise that before you make such a significant decision, you have enough knowledge that you can self-advocate.
Manufacturing: All manufacturers are NOT equal. There are different qualities of metal frames, fiberglass shells, hardware, and water pumps. If the tub is purchased from overseas, it will travel on a container ship. How well is it prepped for transport? I have unboxed tubs with cracked shells, twisted frames, and weak legs.
Repairs: It will benefit you to inquire about the availability of replacement parts like pumps, gaskets, door handles, faucets, even drains. In the past, I have had to wait weeks for a part to come, rendering the tub unusable. This has informed my decision to only sell tubs that can be serviced in a reasonable amount of time.
Size: While it is exciting to choose from colors, air systems, and options like aromatherapy and light therapy, the first limitation that must be observed is space. How much space do you have for a walk in tub? (more)
Access: How accessible is the desired location? In my company, we have had to remove doors and jambs to free up the path needed for installation. Now, every model does not automatically have the same options as another. So, space for placement, and place for transportation is the first significant factor.
Warranty: As the years have passed, warranties have changed. Generally, there is a lifetime warranty on the shell, and a five year warranty on the pump. Now, the ‘lifetime’ in question actually refers to the original owner in the house and is not transferable if you move or if your home is inherited after you pass on.
